What is the difference between a product and process invention /innovation?

In simple words, “Rasam” is a South Indian food item that is consumed as a digestion enhancer after a meal.

Though the product mentioned is rasam and the method of preparing rasam is well known to the world, when you have innovated a new process with different ingredients for the preparation of rasam and the process brings out a significant improvement in the attributes of the product such as taste, smell and character then the process of preparing the same becomes a patent though the product is already a patent or cannot be patented.

Thus product patents usually are those which are claimed for the end result or the benefits in terms of technology that is derived out of an innovation and process patents are usually those which are claimed to create a better end result during the creation of any product.
