How are product innovation / inventions better then process inventions / innovations?

In usual and practical life scenarios, we have always heard of the statement, for any problem we face, there are “n” number of solutions. But the actual statement is that, for any problem we face, there are “n” number of ways through which we can find one optimal solution.

As seen above, the solution here is the “product” and the “n” number of ways are the “processes”. Though the methodologies of creating a product are hundred, the innovations to be performed is never ending and every innovative step ahead will have numerous permutations and combinations to cross over the next. Thus it is difficult in the business market to survive with a patent on a process and the options for revenue out of the same is a difficult one.

In case of product inventions or innovations, the net result remains to be a solution of a problem which might be optimal for any current scenario, as life keeps changing the problems also keep changing and hence the solutions too will be. Thus a product innovation with optimal solution shall bare modifications and improvements to the future as the trend changes and the viability of the same to get sold or commercialized is higher compared to process patents.

Most of a time, for any process innovation or invention, the patent holder will be reliable only on a manufacturer for commercialization of a patent; whereas a product innovation / inventions is not always manufacturer reliable and the inventor shall start his own business too.
