Rule 14 – Amendments to Specifications

  • When amendments (changes) to a provisional or complete specification including the drawings are made, such pages incorporating the amendments (changes) shall be retyped and submitted to the patent office forming a continuous document.
  • Another document with markings made on it identifying the amendments carried out and a statement that clearly indicates (page number and line number) the amendments made so, in the specification or the drawings along with the reason for doing the change shall also be filed along with it.
  • Amendments (changes) made so shall not be made in slips pasted on, or footnotes or by writing in the margin of the said documents.
  • When a retyped (changed) page or pages are submitted as a replacement for the older page, the older page shall be considered to be superseded and cancelled by the applicant.
